Northwest Research & Monitoring

Featured Project

Combining monitoring with First Nation collaboration

Northwest Research and Monitoring worked in partnership with Goldcorp Inc to deliver their water quality compliance program on the Equity Mine site during 2018/2019. Goldcorp Inc. is a gold production company headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They are engaged in gold mining and related activities including exploration, extraction, processing and reclamation.

NWRM conducted cumulative impact monitoring at the mine site to evaluate changes in the environment to meet values with respect to heritage, water, fish and wildlife. Our monitoring services generated critical and up-to-date information that is essential to provide sound stewardship of water quality and the environment.

NWRM collaborated with the Office of the Wet’suwet’en Fisheries Department on this important monitoring work. The first few visits included Jeff Anderson, a Principal Fluvial Geomorphologist/ Hydrologist. Jeff trained technicians from the Office of the Wet’suwet’en to conduct the monitoring and water quality labwork. The last few visits were performed solely by the trained technicians. This collaboration provides learning opportunities for local First Nations and improves the economic outlook for the community.
